I’ve always been jealous of people with faith.

I have faith, it’s just not tied down to one religion. My major was in Philosophy & Religions. I got to read & study, discuss, debate, chew on & digest the skeletons of our societal belief.

One thing seems to be true- religion is the story around the truth.

Weather, technology, population density and so on will affect what that story will be.

Underneath it all there are Universal truths.

I was raised split between two religions.

Catholicism and Judaism.

I could never understand why Catholicism had decided to freeze in time the most excruciating moment of their savior's death.

If I had died for all of humanity's sins, I wouldn’t want the whole species to wear my bleeding corpse around their neck, or to put that same visual of me bleeding in my houses of worship.

It shows the way we inspire and motivate ourselves and each other. It used to be through force, war, shame, death, law.

Abuse used to be seen as discipline in a household. Good for children.

We used to mold the people by telling them that their thoughts were impure and they had to purify them. God was always watching. A metaphysical surveillance society.

Guilt, shame, punishment. It’s unsustainable. We are still digesting this way of relating to ourselves & each other in our personal, professional lives.

Focusing on these sides of ourselves makes us focus on these aspects of everyone else. There’s so much else to live for.

Are kindness, compassion, love for thy neighbor even true when inspired by the negative consequence that will happen if you don’t have them. Is eternal damnation a solid foundation and motor for our epic and infinite ability to love, give, and create?

I’m not saying all religion is bad, just that it wouldn’t hurt to evolve some of the mechanisms that we used centuries ago.

We are capable of so much.

And we’ve learned so much about ourselves throughout the years.

Science and religion need each other. Both pursue truth and what humanity is capable of. They just do it through

different lenses.

Imagine what lens we could look at if they fused together. Took the epic power of faith and universal trust and mixed it with studies of humanity, the planet, the universe.

I think it could be something beautiful.
